Why?
We are committed to helping make sure that underrepresented groups can find work in technology, and we hope that our efforts, decisions and features will help to redress the gender and ethnicity imbalances in the technology industry.
cord is used by thousands of companies to grow their technology and engineering teams. We understand that this means the decisions we make have an influence over the diversity and makeup of Engineering teams across Europe.
For this reason, we have created search filters that allow you to find people from under-represented groups. For the time being this allows you to search for females and ethnic minorities, however, we plan to expand this feature set in the future.
Doing this isn't easy. There are compromises we need to make and some hard decisions but driving our decision-making is what we can do to increase the number of people from underrepresented groups working in technology teams around Europe.
How it works
cord’s underrepresented groups search filters are built to help you increase the number of people from underrepresented groups you start conversations with on cord. You can search for females or people from ethnic minority backgrounds.
The filters use advanced API software powered by Namsor to make predictions of ethnicity and gender-based on name and location. We took the selection of this API vendor very seriously, to make sure the information was as accurate, reliable, and reputable. The API we chose to use is used by enterprise companies, like The Emirates, government bodies like The City of Boston and charities like US Aid to help better understand the likely gender and ethnicity of people. The predictions are based on millions of data points globally.
We hope that these filters will contribute to improving the diversity of the technical teams across London, by helping our users be proactive at the sourcing stage of hiring people from underrepresented groups.
Note: The filters are correct in about 90%-95% of cases. They are intelligent predictors, and should be used only as a guide to help improve your D&I hiring.
